Avalon: King Arthur’s Mystical Place

Avalon is a mystical lore featured in Arthurian legend. Avalon means “the isle of fruit  or apple trees.” This mystical place first appeared in Geoffrey Monmouth’s 1136 pseudo-historical account Historia Regum Britanniae in English The History of the kings of Britain.

King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was forged in Avalon. He was later taken there to recover from his war wounds after the battle of Camlann.

Mystical Avalon was a magical place where Morgan le Fay and the Magician Merlin practiced their sorcery there. It was historically recognised as the former island of Glastonbury Tor.
