Happy Halloween/Samhain to all!
Remember Black cats need love and care just like other cats yet because of old Scary superstitions they were demonised. Times have changed, in many other cultures black cats are known to bring luck, also in pre-Christian times in the UK and Europe.
Today I am posting this fabulous poem called “Black and Gold,” by Nancy Byrd Turner in honor of the black cat.
Remember if a unfamiliar black cat shows up at your door be kind to it, it brings luck. If not you have a great friend!
Black and Gold
Everything is black and gold,
Black and gold, tonight;
Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon,
Yellow candlelight;
Jet-black cat with golden eyes,
Shadows black as ink,
Firelight blinking in the dark
With a yellow blink.
Black and gold, black and gold,
Nothing in between –
When the world turns black and gold,
Then it’s Halloween!
~Nancy Byrd Turner Circa (July 29, 1880 – September 5, 1971)
